Evil Cat=Vet Visit=2 Weeks Immobilization

Yesterday morning was great.  Jasmine the black cat snuck into the house and I immediately set into action and chased her.

It started out as a good chase and as I slid into the laundry room is where it all went down.  Something happened and this terrible pain ripped through my body and I could not move my back legs.  Of course when the pain happened I screamed and yelled and mom came running like a crazy lady.  Before I knew what happened I was whisked away to the vets office.  Normally I mind when I go to the vet, this time, not so much.

After a, shall we say a prodding exam, where things where stuck where things should not be stuck…..ahem.  An x-ray was order where the bad news was announced.  I have hurt my T12/T13 vertebrae and it has caused mild paralysis in my back legs.

The vet ordered two weeks of extreme crate rest and medications.  He said that I could only get out for pee breaks and food.  No running, no chasing cats and no playing fetch with my squeaky toys.  OMD.  He said if I do not follow the rules I may have to have surgery and it will cost $2,300.  Dad said that we would follow all his rules to a “T”, whatever that means.  All I know is I am miserable and I have been confined to jail.

I am in pain and so sad…stupid cat.

  1. Ouch! I hope you feel better Higgins and make sure you listen to the vets advice. You don't want Dad to pay that huge vet bill!

    Happy Wednesday!

  2. Oh Higs! Poor thing. You and I should get together and say bad things about evil cats that run into the laundry. Seriously though, you sound in worse shape than me so do what your dad and Dr Dog say. If your mama is like My Typist, you won't have a choice anyway. Do as I do...milk it for all you're worth and get lots of treats and cuddles. Sending a big one your way now. Your friend Georgia x

  5. Oh Higgins, this is TERRIBLE. You do look sad. Boy, I'm sad for you. I hope you feel better soon. If it's any consolation, I would have done just the same thing, I would have chased the cat and never even thought bout a T12 situation. Oh poor Higgins! Sending cheery thoughts your way.

  6. Oh Higgins my poor little buddy!! And people wonder why you doggies think cats are evil! sheesh! This must have been very upsetting for your Momma. You had better follow those doctors orders to a T (T12/T13 actually) so follow his orders to two T's and get yourself all healed up so there is no surgery. We're sending all our positive vibes your way for a quick recovery, so remember no jail breaks for you 'cause it's for your own good! Get well my friend! :)

In the mean time, ask your mom for some treats! Better yet, ask your mom for a Kong with peanut butter so you're occupied while your back is healing. ^^

I hope you all the best. Next time no chasing cats, okay? No matter how tempting it is.

  21. OMD Higgins! I'm so sorry to hear about your back. I just heard about your plight from my awesome furenda at Simpatico. I wanna tell you this... Stay in the crate and just relax! I had cervical surgery in Sept. and it is NO walk in the park. It was painful and Mommy said uber expensive too. I was miserable when it ruptured and the pain was terrible. Unfortunately in my case crate rest would not have helped me. The pain Mommy & Daddy felt for me almost killed them. (You can read all about it on the Sept. post on my blog). So right now, be thankful that the crate rest might help. We feel for ya!

  25. Oh no! Just catching back up with folks and read this. I know you're feeling a little better but I sure bet your mom and dad were really scared at this point. I hope you have followed your vet's instructions to a T - you really don't want to spend any more time at the vets or in the cage than you have to. Thinking of you....
